METAL ON ICE

Review by Metal Mom

I almost missed the chance to review this EP, it slipped down my list, and trust me, being a rocker, this would have been a real shame. I have spent all day listening and enjoying, and then doing it all over again, just louder. Canadian Music is alive and kicking.

This is a great EP. Thanks to Sean Kelly for taking an idea and running with it. An EP that’s motivated by his book Metal on Ice. Metal on Ice EP, tunes from Canada's Hard Rock and Heavy Metal Heroes companion EP features legendary artists singing new adaptations of their chart-topping heavy metal hits from the 1980’s. Slated for release in October 2013, the album will include new recordings of original hit songs by acclaimed Canadian artists Brian Vollmer (Helix), Carl Dixon (Coney Hatch), Darby Mills (Headpins), Lee Aaron, Nick Walsh (Slik Toxik) and Russ Dwarf (Killer Dwarfs). Slated for release in October 2013. Metal on Ice Project sees author Sean Kelly partnering with Coalition Music to provide devotees of Canadian hard rock and heavy metal an insider's look into the conception of an album and the honouring of it’s release through the excitement of a live show.

“The Metal on Ice CD release party originally scheduled for Saturday, October 26 at Toronto’s Phoenix Concert Theatre has been postponed until 2014.  The live show will feature all the album's participating artists along with host Christopher Ward (former MuchMusic VJ) and the author/musical director of the night, Sean Kelly.  Stay tuned to www.metalonice.com for more details.”

Just give these 7 songs a listen and you are transported back in time, a time where the music was everything, it could make your moods go away, or bring great joy just listening. Trust me, if you are a fan of the 80’s/90’s, you are going to really enjoy this. There is nothing quit like those old rock / heavy metal tunes to make your day go by that much better. Go ahead, give it a listen, I am sure that you for one will be purchasing and digging those older classics. Some notable Canadian people bringing it all back to life.

The book is to be published on September 14, 2013 by Dundurn Press and written by Billboard-charting guitarist Sean Kelly, Metal on Ice draws on interviews with original artists such as Helix, Anvil, Coney Hatch, Killer Dwarfs, Harem Scarem and Honeymoon Suite, as well as prominent journalists, VJs and industry insiders.
