This tail end of 2014 is definitely shaping up to be a busy one, and tonight is one I have been looking forward to.

Up first tonight is AMERICAN SHARKS, I was a little surprised that the band came out,  3 songs were played, and then discovered, they were just getting their gear in tune, that was different. Photographers were already in the pit snapping away not knowing. 3 guys make up this band out of Austin, Texas, they call their genre satanic overtures, not sure that is what I would call it. They had a catchy beat, but at times, the songs sounded the same, what made each have a little different sound was the drum blasts that seemed to stand out the most here. Fantastic drumming, but not sure what the drummer was on, after each song, he got up walked around, and at one point the singer, steered him back to his kit. Maybe he was jacked up on coffee, who knows, but he did do an amazing performance.

Next is Corrosion of Conformity, now maybe I would have enjoyed more if the idiotic moshers knew how to mosh and stay in the middle. But that group of moshers were drunk before the show even started, so you knew where that was going early on.  Corrosion had plenty of energy on stage, and they looked to be enjoying every minute of it. Saw them on Barge to Hell, and they play an outstanding set every time. Again another 3 member band that fills the room with hard rock, hardcore, metal and punk, how can you not enjoy that, a bit of everything for everyone. There was a lot of people that came to the floor for them, headbanging, moshing, horns high and singing along. Great performance, great talent, don’t miss them on this tour.

Next, well, to tell you the truth I was a little apprehensive tonight about this show, some fans I knew were adamant they would not go because Oderus was no longer there. But I wanted to be open minded and see just how well they managed, and in a way pay my respects to Oderus.  This tour takes GWAR to find Oderus Urungus, they will search his favourite stomping grounds, searching every city, every venue, they will even go to the remote corners of Hell until the end of time in search of their leader. WOW!!! Impressive show to say the least. They still have that Gwar attitude, creating havoc on stage with blood and pus, killing off ones that come to attack. What I really liked was the fact that each of the members sang, each had a part of making Gwar who they are today. They all did an exceptional job. This year Gwar confirmed Kim Dylla, aka Vulvatron, will replace the late Oderus Urungus as lead singer of the band. Of course it’s not Oderus, but listen close and you know she has the talent to execute her new found position. Excellent costume, great makeup, she nailed it, and there were many cheering for her. She had big shoes to fill, and she did a superb job of it. The band did pay respects to Oderus, and I found I had tears in my eyes, and running down my face, remembering the interview we did with Oderus on their last visit. The only thing I didn’t like, was the reference to the drugs, they brought out a big crack ball, and a massive needle, I thought it was disrespectful, but guess what, the more I thought about it, the more I realized that it’s exactly what Oderus would have wanted. So I rethought that. A very memorable set, and a really fantastic performance by all. I am so glad that I went and got to enjoy Gwar. Please, don’t make the mistake of not going because Oderus is no longer there. The rest of the band, they are carrying on, just like Oderus would have wanted them to. The crowd was massive last night, so I am sure that most are coming out to check Gwar out and see what they are all about, if they are the same, or different. THEY KICKED ASS, literally ;) Thanks to everyone in Gwar for continuing on, much respect to all of you.
