DREAM THEATER: LUNA PARK
Review by Ruben Mosqueda

Dream Theater as you know put on a marathon concert. It wouldn’t be out of the ordinary that they play a show that runs in the area of 180 minutes. That’s an average show for these guys.

Dream Theater have taken a page from their idols RUSH and have issued several live albums and live DVDs. Just like you expected they would Dream Theater have issued their latest DVD titled ‘Live at Luna Park.’ This particular release has been issued in a various configurations which also includes; Blu-Ray, DVD/CD set and the top shelve version that includes the Blu-Ray and three CDs.

The concert was filmed in the summer of 2012 in Buenos Aires, Argentina as the band toured behind their critically acclaimed ‘A Dramatic turn of Events’ album. Dream Theater didn’t skim on the material from the aforementioned record as several of the tracks from the album are prominently featured here. Never fear they included fan favorites like; “Pull Me Under,” “Metropolis Part 1” and “The Root of All Evil.”

The band’s intricate execution of each song is captured brilliantly with the exquisite cinematography that compliments the band’s performance. This show is ‘eargasmic.’

If the show weren’t enough we’re also treated to tons of bonus footage. The true gem of the bonus footage is the documentary which puts the viewer right in the thick of the audition for the drum vacancy and how they went about selecting Mike Mangini to fill that vacancy. In the end ‘Live at Luna Park’ is essential for the Dream Theater geeks but would be a great ‘education’ tool for the novice that doesn’t know just what the hell Dream Theater are all about.
