April 30th, a terrific day weather wise to drive down to Seattle from Vancouver, BC, took a little longer only because the viaduct was closed and there was a game on. I swear it took just as long to get down 1st Street as the entire drive into town. That being said, it was all worth it, I was looking forward to this show, as Devildriver and Holy Grail I have seen numerous times, and never disappoint, but this time around I get to witness two new bands, Incite and Hemlock.

First up tonight is HEMLOCK, as I will say honestly, that someone told me they were hardcore, and well I am not a huge fan, but boy, once they started playing, don’t care what genre you put them into, they started the evening off with a lot of high energy. Great way to start the night. They held the attention of the crowd and delivered. A few smiles in the crowd when singer grabbed his dreads and pulled them straight out to the sides. This band really looks like they love what they are doing, and that can make the whole difference in their stage presence. Great job guys.

Next is INCITE, and this is actually the band I came to see, I had heard and read so many great things about them. I was not to be disappointed. It amazes me that this band, with all the touring they do, day after day with maybe a short break between, that they can give 150% of what they do to the fans. With the determination that they exhume, they will be going places, and really they are now. And we all know who the singer is, Richie Cavalera, and let me tell you he does not ride on the coattails of Max, he has his own distinct vocals and energy that creates his own identity. Everything just melted together, from the blasting drum beats, to the thundering energetic bass, to the forceful guitar riffs, and add to this mix the monumental vocals, you would be hard pressed to find such an unequalled talent. Does anyone say their set 'blew my mind'. Well it did, I was absolutely stunned and overwhelmed at how capable they are at what they do. They obviously work hard to put this all together, as a band, and that is also what can make the difference in the deliverance of their music. I have to say, I found them to steal the show tonight. Sadly, it didn't last as long as I would have liked, and I don't think I can do them the justice they deserve in this review. They just kick some major ass. Another thing, Incite has the craziest/wildest mosh pit ever for tonight. I can't wait to see them perform again. I will definitely be watching for more shows to come my way. Is it time yet.

HOLY GRAIL hits the stage next.  Full on metal is what you get from these guys, head on. I don’t really need to say much about this band, as I am sure everyone knows who they are, they tour a lot and they hit the small places as well. They played a variety of songs, kept the crowd going, but didn’t really see any mosh pits happen, people stood there and watched. Oh they head banged of course, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. I think what draws me to this band is James’s voice, it is almost a power metal sound, and add that to all the rest of the mix and you have a great set tonight.

Up last, is none other than DEVILDRIVER, with their huge grooves and big hooks, guitar bass assery and thundering drums. I was a little curious as this was the first show I will have seen them with new members. Well, I don’t know what I was worried about, they nailed their sound perfectly. Songs from previous albums, and ones from the new one “Trust No One”, about to be released this month, were enjoyed by all. They also had a good amount of energy and moved around the stage, making it a great visual. I could not stay for the whole set, as it was another 3-hour drive home, and then work early in the morning. But from what I can tell from the songs I heard, the night would be unforgettable for the fans there.

This was a phenomenal tour, a little variety, which I enjoy, I am not one to have the same type of bands with the same style play all night long.
