Venereal Dawn” is again a concept album. Its nine songs weave a tale of survival, betrayal and sacrifice in an extremely hostile environment. - take the band's traditionally rich musical spectrum further than ever.- hellish black metal, sophisticated melancholy,- horror and a deep occult spirituality,- At the end of an excessive recording session in late 2013, nine songs were chosen to mark the band's 20-year anniversary with what they hope will become a landmark album in their long career. - Expect epic song structures, mighty sonic cathedrals, virulent and sinister magic and lots of unexpected twists and turns as the bands drags you screaming and headbanging through the abysmal roller coaster of their universe once more.

They formed ranks back in 1994, and deep routed themselves as one of the top ranking bands in the genre. It took a lot of work to put this together, especially with scheduling conflicts with their other bands/jobs/the colossal amount of hours that this album required, it forced the band to postpone this release a few times. At the end of an excessive recording session in late 2013, after three years in the making,  they chose nine songs to mark the bands 20-year anniversary.

Let me introduce you to the Dark Fortress “Venereal Dawn”. You will notice the band has taken it’s rich musical range and taken it much further than before. This one has taken them to the top and beyond with hellish black metal, add in some rich melancholy, some deep occult and Dark Fortress have offered up an amazing album for all to enjoy. This is nothing like what you might be used to. But wait, don’t walk away, this by far is a phenomenal album, and you can see that it was well worth the 3 year wait. Not something you would expect, it’s much better. In fact, I am going to venture a guess that this album “Venereal Dawn” will be the one that people will talk about for eons.

What you are going to get here is some pretty legendary songs, some completely unexpected twists and turns, leaving you screaming and horns high while you listen and understand all that has gone into this 7th album of theirs. Morean’s voice is always one of the reasons you come back for more. This is also a concept album, Morean raising questions such as "“What happens to life on earth if the fragile laws of nature are altered even by a little bit? How can the human psyche deal with the perspective of inevitable extinction? How far can the human soul be stripped before its essence vanishes completely? Can we contain the implications of forced and radical evolution and the insanity it brings?”
The band took a huge risk in creating something that went so beyond their walls, but don’t let that stop you from giving this a listen, it will surprise you, it’s the true form of blatant black metal, with some melody, prog, thrash and groove added it to make it complete. They really took a different route with this album and I think it works, it’s not all the same, each has something different. I think you will be surprised and pleased once you have given this a listen.  I was. Nice to see a band take a step out of it's normal element and do it so well.  It’s now out, so what are you waiting for. Grab yourself a copy and start enjoying it now.
