CHTHONIC:
TAKASAGO ARMY

Review by: Metal Mom

The name CHTHONIC is a Greek word which refers to the earth and might have implications of the underworld. As a topic of much confusion, the name is actually pronounced as "Thonic".

This division incorporates influences from traditional Taiwanese music including the classical Erhu.Formed back in 1995,Chthonic has released six studio albums. They are artists, as well as political activists who support Taiwan independence and self-determination for the Tibetans and Uighurs.

Let me introduce you to this combat troop called “CHTHONIC”, on vocals is Freddy Lim, guitar is Jesse Liu, bass and back up vocals Doris Yeh, CJ Kao works his magic on the synthesizer, and the steady march of drums is produced by Dani Wang.

These symphonic / melodic black metal soldiers has taken their music to the front lines. They have created a sound all their own, and making it a real force to be reckoned with. There are 10 tracks on this 6th studio album called “Takasago Army” which was co-produced by Chthonic and Rickard Bengtsson., and released on Aug 1, 2011 in Europe and September 6 2011 in North America by Spinefarm Records. On June 7, 2011, they digitally released “Takao” a single from the Takasago Army which was released in July.

This is definitely a CD worth listening to, Doris plays such a thundering bass, while Jesse has some crushing riffs. And Dani produces some fantastic drum beats, the sound of an army on their march. Lets not forget CJ on synthesizer who creates the melodic sound to the band. Last but not least is Freddy on vocals, growling vocals to be exact, and you have an armed force that knows how to take their sound to the limits, a squad of Taiwanese musicians that distinctly have perfected their music. I have just seen them live, and they are truthfully much better than their CD, that’s when you can tell they have talent, its not digitally created. I highly recommend CHTHONIC’s “Takasago Army”
