6 years is a long wait for fans of Bloodbath. In 2012, they went away for awhile, I imagine to try and regroup. In the spring of 2014 with much mystery around who would take over vocals for the band after Mikael Akerfeldt left, the band stepped into the studio to create their ultimate masterpiece, and at the helm would be UK's Paradise Lost Nick Holmes.

Grand Morbid Funeral is the 4th studio album from the masters of supreme death metal, what some call Sweden's lords of loathing. Some names you will all recognize Old Nick (Paradise Lost), Lord Seth (Katatonia), Blakkheim (Katatonia), Sodomizer/Axe (Opeth), add to that some guest appearances from Chris Reifert / Eric Cutler, USA gore masters (Autopsy), and you have something worthwhile to listen to, which has been released as of November 17th.

What can you expect, it’s Bloodbath, the vocals may not be as harsh as previous, but I will tell you, it rings true for brutal and raw assault on your soul. It’s old school death metal, and isn’t that what you want. The drums are wickedly savage and support the songs, riffs are very distinctive and masterful. It took me a few listens to really appreciate the whole core of this album. The more I listened, the more I liked it. But that’s like all albums, you never ever just give one listen, you need to get a real feel for it. Instrument wise its totally Bloodbath, and the vocalist, Nick, I think he did a superb job. It always takes awhile to really get into a new vocalist. Give him that chance. It all works.
